Credit Card Debt

| January 3, 2012

Credit Card Debt is easy to get into but it is hard to get out of it. If your credit is halfway decent, whenever you check your mail you will receive many credit card offers. All you have to do is fill out a simple form and you can receive yet another card of your very own. The problems come when the monthly bills begin to show up.

The ability to ignore the available credit line that a company offers is difficult. This is where many people get into trouble. When the money begins to run low at the end of the week people turn to their plastic to make purchases. This works great until the following month when the bill comes.

In addition to the regular household bills, there is now a credit card debt to pay on every month. The new bill will cut into the household budget and the money will begin to run out a few days earlier than it did prior to getting the credit card. This leads to a cycle of using the card to pay the bills in order to get by until payday. Then comes the day when the cardholder finds that they cannot pay the credit card bill. The easy solution is to fill out yet another application for a credit card. This new credit card will have a bill that will come every month.

If there appears to be a pattern forming here, there is. The pattern of using a credit card for things that there is no money for is one that needs to be broken. Once into the cycle of debt it can become a deep money pit. Digging out of this pit requires a lot of sacrifice. In order to pay off the accumulated credit card debt one must forego using a credit card in the future. Paying all the bills, including the bill for the credit card, without going further into debt is tough. It is important to keep track of all expenses and begin to find areas where spending can be reduced or eliminated.

The best way to avoid the trap of credit card debt is to avoid the temptation of using the cards in the first place. The best way is seldom the option chosen though. People will give into the trap of debt and then have to figure out how to get out of it.
